ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Certification  Steps

Steps to attain certification

  1. Check that all documents for ISO 9001: 2015 are completed. This is done by the implementers attending an ISO 9001:2015 Documentation Training Course.
  2. Make sure that the company/entity has trained its staff.  Check whether ISO 9001: 2015 General Awareness Training, Risk and Opportunities Training and Internal Auditor Trainings have been conducted.
  3. Check that there is a “Context of the Organization” document listing all your Internal and external issues related to Quality. It should also list all the company’s interested parties including suppliers and sub consultants.
  4. Complete the risk and opportunities register including and a legal register
  5. Complete the ISO9001:2015 QMS Internal Audit report
  6. Conduct the Management Review and record the outcome in a document (ie Management Review Report)
  7. Conduct a document review. This can be done when you request for a certification proposal. It will save you time and money, as the document review report will list down all Major or Minor non-compliance together with “room for improvement” observations.
  8. Rectify any noncompliance listed in the document Review Report
  9. Contact the Certification Body and Conduct the Certification audit
  10. Address and close out any Major noncompliance in the Certification Audit (if any)
  11. Close out any Minor noncompliance, and “room for improvement” observations in the Certification Audit by the next surveillance audit to maintain certification.

What is the cost of certification? Listed below are a few points to keep in mind:

  • The cost of certification depends on the number of days of audit.
  • The number of days depend on the number of permanent personnel. As an example, a company having less than 10 permanent (full time) staff usually does a document review of 1 day, and a certification audit of 1.5 to 2 days. This can be negotiated by with your Certification Body or Lead Auditor. It is advisable to get a couple of Quotes before committing to a certification audit.
